HIV is a world-wide epidemic that currently infects 36.7 million people and each year there are a million more people who get infected (2016 WHO). Understanding how the virus interacts with humans is crucial in finding ways to prevent the spread to new hosts. My research focuses on finding out how HIV interacts with specific proteins within each human and how the virus uses these proteins to infect new people. Once we understand these interactions, we can develop drugs that inhibit these interactions to prevent the virus from infecting new victims
