My PhD work focuses on finding out why women become diabetic during pregnancy when they have no previous underlying conditions. Therefore, my research looks at the connection between the placenta, which is sometimes referred to as “the forgotten organ”, and diabetes as well as how diet is involved with this connection. Overall, I am extremely interested in what happens during early animal development along with how the environment and conditions surrounding a pregnant woman or animal can influence the rest of their growing baby’s life. My career goal is to become a reproductive physiologist at a zoo conservation research facility. I have always loved exotic animals and am fascinated by the entire molecular and hormonal process of creating new life!
