MU PREP Scholar

I am a MU PREP Scholar in Dr. Lee-Ann Allen’s lab. Currently, I am investigating the three-way interaction between AGS cells, human neutrophils, and Helicobacter pylori. This bacterium primarily infects gastric epithelium cells (stomach) which can cause ulcers, severe inflammation, and cancer. Neutrophils are one of the first responders in your innate immunity and recently it’s been found that H. pylori can evade, infect, and through unknown mechanisms, use them to increase their virulence. My career goals are to continue to investigate host-pathogen interactions in a R1 research laboratory and to continue to do outreach.
