Undergraduate, Plant Sciences w/ Emphasis on Breeding, Biology, and Biotechnology
I am an undergraduate researcher in the Washburn Lab. My research focuses on understanding how maize reacts to different weather scenarios including drought and flood. Currently, my lab uses high-throughput phenotyping to look at the physical factors thought to improve performance in water-stress scenarios. From there the genetic explanation behind why some plants survive better than others can be determined through a GWAS approach. In the future, this will allow for genetic modification of crops allowing farmers to grow corn in a wide variety of weather conditions without sacrificing quality or yield.
